How Do Acne Scars Form and How To Prevent Them
Acne scarring is a long lasting effect of acne when you are young. Unfortunately, it is one of those things which can be avoided (if you choose to simply live with the acne whilst you have it) - but also something which many people actively choose not to avoid.
This is possibly as a result of our desire to look good in the present time, and therefore the desire to pop or pick at pimples and acne is more overwhelming and powerful than the desire to prevent acne scarring from affecting us later on in life.
The Formation Process of Acne Scars
Acne scarring is a direct result of popping, picking, or squeezing pimples or acne whilst they are on the face. The reality is that if everyone avoided these actions, no one would end up with acne scarring, and hence it would not be a problem.
However, for the reasons mentioned in the introduction - people do participate in the actions above and therefore - they will be forced to live with the consequences down the track. Following are the steps involved in the formation of an acne scar:
1. Acne forms on the skin.
2. The individual pops or squeezes the pimple to release the contents.
3. This creates a hole in the skin, and the skin needs to heal in this area.
4. The healing process makes that area of skin tougher, harder, and thicker.
5. The thickness translates in to acne scarring in the future.
But this leaves out one fundamental question - why is it that not everyone who has acne and chooses to squeeze their face also has acne scarring?
Preventing and Reducing Acne Scarring
The answer is that whilst some people are predisposed to live without acne scarring - there is actually a way of squeezing pimples which will result in no scarring whatsoever.
Usually, it is trained professionals who understand this technique (it's referred to as "extraction") and it is best done during the process of a facial or peel. This makes it expensive, and time consuming. Hence, the best solution to prevent and reduce the aesthetic eyesore that we know as acne scarring is to simply stop squeezing your pimples - or ultimately, treat the acne at the root and therefore not have to deal with the issue at all.
